EO Global Wildlife & Natural World Photography Competition 2022 Is Now Closed!

Thank you for all those who have participated, submitted, and shared our 2022 EO Photography Competition. This year, we had nearly 500 submissions form all over the world, highlighting our changing planet and the impacts of human activities.

The winners will be announced on our website and be notified via email by June 24, 2022, so stay tuned!

As the saying goes: “a picture is worth a thousand words.” We at Earth.Org strongly believes that photography and imagery has the power to inspire, educate and galvanise action into protecting and preserving our home and planet.

Our Global Wildlife & Natural World Photography Competition 2021 saw more than 400 talented photographers from over 60 countries submit their work, all of whom share a passion for the environment and uncovering our planet’s natural beauty. Tharmapalan Tilaxan from Sri Lanka was awarded Overall Best Environment Photo, Alain Schroeder from Belgium took the top prize in the Wildlife in Peril category while Chin Leong Teo from Singapore won Human Impacts on Environment category. Chin’s stunning works were also converted into impact NFTs in a collaboration with Earth.Org, in which proceeds help us continue to deliver our free data-journalism, as well support our ecosystem of changemakers.

Our Global Wildlife & Natural World Photography Competition 2022 is now closed for submissions, where you will have opportunity showcase your work to the world, and win one of three prizes worth USD$1,500.

THE CATEGORIES

We invite explorers, adventure travellers, professional photographers and photographers working on the front line of wildlife conservation across the world to submit their photographs for the following categories:

• WILDLIFE IN PERIL
  • Document or highlight the biodiversity and wildlife struggles caused by climate change and human activities. For example: animals suffering, trapped or endangered. 
  • 2021’s winning image by Alain Schroeder:

• HUMAN IMPACTS ON THE ENVIRONMENT
  • Illustrate the impacts of human activity on nature and the environment. Think pollution, wastes, oil drilling etc. 
  • 2021’s winning image by Chin Leong Teo:

• CLIMATE ACTION
  • New category in 2022. Photographs that capture environmental protests (youth or widespread), climate solutions in practice, or actions of change (renewable energy, sustainable activities, beach clean-ups etc).

• OVERALL WINNER (6 of the best photos to be chosen from the three categories above)

What We’re Looking For 

• Do submit: high-quality photographs of nature and wildlife that inspire action
• Don’t submit: photographs of pets, images that are blurry or staged, beautiful landscape works that do not showcase the theme of the categories

How To Enter

To enter The EO Global Wildlife & Natural World Photography Competition 2022, entrants must submit their best 3 photographs for each category (e.g max 6 altogether) by completing the online Entrance Form below by April 29th, 2022. Please use the following format for submitting your photos: “Category_Name“. If you don’t submit your photos using the format, they will not be considered.

Note: By submitting your photographs you are giving permission for EO to share them on EO social media channels, and use them to promote and inform readers about the competition. If we use a photograph the participant will be tagged, and credited appropriately. 

The best submissions will also be published on the Earth.Org Instagram, with the photographer’s own Instagram tagged.

2022 Prizes

• The Winner of the Earth.Org “Overall Best Environmental Photo” 2022 will be awarded with USD$1,000.
• The Winners of the three sub-categories Earth.Org “Wildlife in Peril” 2022, Earth.Org “Human Impacts on the Environment” 2022, and “Climate Action” 2022 will be awarded with USD$250 each.
• All entries must be received by April 29th, 2022.
• All Winners will be invited to take over the Earth.Org Instagram for a week each.
• All Winners will be interviewed for Articles on Earth.Org and given the chance to showcase their work on our website or in our articles.
• Winners will be announced on our website and notified via email by June 24th, 2022.

All winners will have their photos featured on all of Earth.Org’s website, social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, as well as newsletters and more. The photo will also be used as a cover image for an Earth.Org article.

World Renowned Judges

• • Aaron Gekoski – an environmental photojournalist and film-maker, specialising in human-animal conflict. His photographs regularly feature in the international press and have won numerous awards, including Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Nature Photographer of the Year and more. 
  • Tran Tuan Viet –  an award-winning visual storyteller whose known to capture candid shots of life, landscape, and traditional culture in Vietnam. 
  • Chin Leong Teo – a Singaporean photographer, and one of the winners of Earth.Org’s Global Wildlife & Natural World Photography Competition 2021. His works have been published widely by notable media outlets such as National Geographic, The Daily Telegraph, and The Guardian.
  • Madelon de Grave – founder of Bamboo Scenes, a leading platform that curates collection of exclusive photography art of Hong Kong. Bamboo Scenes represents some of the most exciting, award-winning artists including 2020 International Landscape Photographer Kelvin Yuen, researcher-turned photographer Jeremy Cheung, urban visual artist Elaine Li, and urban photographer Kevin Mak.

Judges will value the unusual, the dramatic –  viewpoints not seen before; so originality will play a vital part in the way judges will view your submission. There will be one Winner in each Category, and an overall winner.

The next 20 best photos selected from all participants will be invited to join our network of Official Earth.Org Photographers and invited to curate Earth.Org’s Instagram page. Their work will be published, credited and tagged across all of our social media platforms that reaches a passionate audience and raises the entrants’ profile as wildlife or environmental photographers globally.

Submit Your Entry

Entry Terms and Conditions:

• Anyone can enter the competition.
• The competition will close on April 29th, 2022. All entries must be received before this time. Only one entry per named entrant and email address will be accepted.
• Every entrant can submit up to a maximum of 3 photos per category.
• Only online submissions will be accepted.
• Photograph entries must be under 25 MB and must be submitted in .jpg or .png format.
• Only minor burning, dodging and/or colour correction is acceptable, as is cropping.
• No incomplete, illegible or corrupted entries will be accepted.
• All submissions must be the entrant’s own work, and they must own the copyright to any photographs entered.
• Winners will be notified via email a month after the deadline.
• Once notified, the winner must reply within a 10 day period.
• If the selected winner is unreachable, ineligible, disqualified or fails to claim the prize [within 10 days of notification], the winner automatically forfeits the prize.
• By entering, the entrant is agreeing to all the terms and conditions, and also agreeing to allow Earth.Org to use and publish the winning entry in Earth.Org’s website and social media channels.
• All entries should be made using the entrant’s legal name. Any dishonest information provided by the entrant will be disqualified.
• Failure to comply with any of these terms and conditions (including instructions) will disqualify any entrant from taking part in the Competition and the entry will be invalid.
• The winning entries may also be used by Earth.Org and the competition sponsors in marketing material relating to the competition for up to 3 years.
• Any photos submitted will be subjected to Earth.Org’s terms of use. Once submitted, we reserve the right to use any of the photos submitted to Earth.Org and may be subjected to any future usage.
• Earth.Org retains sole discretion to refuse entrants the right to enter if we feel that these terms and conditions are not being complied with or for any valid and justifiable reason.
• Earth.org reserves the right to disqualify any entrant and/or winner and/or amend these terms and conditions at any time in its absolute discretion.
• Earth.Org reserves the right to modify these rules, suspend or discontinue the Competition at any time, including without limitation where it is necessary to do so due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control or if it cannot be guaranteed that the Competition can be carried out correctly for technical or legal reasons or if the Earth.Org suspects that any person has been manipulating the administration of the Competition or has acted unethically in any other way.
• The determination and decision of Earth.Org on all matters shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
• All personal data submitted by an entrant in connection with this Competition is submitted voluntarily. All personal data collected from entrants will be used by Earth.Org for the purpose of administering the Global Photography Competition and by entering, entrants’ consent to Earth.Org using this information to contact them in respect of the prize. Entrants also consent to receiving Earth.Org’s email newsletters.
