Welcome to the Earth.Org Global Sustainability Index for Sweden, where Earth.Org examines the policies and actions regarding the environment of every nation on earth. Combining the most respected global indexes on pollution, climate change, policy, energy, oceans, biodiversity we have produced an overall Global Index, which will be updated annually.
- The Swedish climate targets (compared to 1990 levels) are to achieve a 40% reduction in emissions by 2020, 63% by 2030 and 85-100% by 2045.
- These ambitious goals are exemplary for the international community and conform with the IPCC’s 1.5°C goal.
- Supplementary measures are required to achieve the target of zero net emissions by 2045, which consist of increasing forest capacity, reducing emissions abroad and development of carbon capture technology. If successful, the technology transfer could be highly beneficial to the world.
