‘Open Source’ Data Science Projects – Get involved

Earth.Org invites passionate Data Scientists around the world to help out with their time and effort on the projects we’d love to tackle.

We have a range of projects that we will always publish that anyone with the skills knowledge and passion can contact us to work on.

These include Data Cleaning, Data Analysis, Machine learning, Data Visualisation work

Project 2: Meat Overconsumption

Based on average emissions for beef (farm to table) worldwide, model the additional emissions created if the population of third-world countries had similar access to beef (meaning the same consumption pattern of beef as a reference first-world country e.g. USA). If calculating for all third world countries is too complicated, pick one and make a case study. Please indicate the reference first-world country you are using.

Project 3: Diet-related emissions

Break down the average diet from a first-world country (e.g. USA, UK etc) into the main elements (animal-based, plant-based, dairy etc) and find the average emissions for each element. Model other diets (vegetarian, vegan) using your own judgement and compare the resulting emissions from a change of diet on the country’s population scale.

If you’d like to get involved and contribute your time to help us extract powerful insights from data to make impacts – please contact us via the form below.

Project 1: Malaria Carrying Mosquito Area Expansion

Based on ideal temperature and humidity metrics for malaria-carrying mosquito prevalence, make an approximate map of new areas these species could spread to in a +2 / +4 / +6°C world.
