Opportunity: Volunteering

Location: Remote or in Hong Kong
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteer (unpaid) Kids News Contributing Writers who love words and nature. For this role, we are also looking for teachers who are willing to volunteer their time to write for a growing kids’ environmental news website. Themes include (but are not limited to): climate change, environmental degradation, use of technology for environmental monitoring, rising sea levels, melting ice caps, impoverishment of marine and terrestrial biodiversity.
Our Mission
Earth.Org is a not-for-profit environmental organisation based in Hong Kong. We aim to raise awareness about the loss of biodiversity and the deteriorating conditions of natural ecosystems worldwide. Our goal is to present accessible and engaging content for educational, advocacy and policy purposes.

Responsibilities
● Producing informative pieces on the environmental issues of our day, in such a way that is engaging and relevant for 8-13 year olds.
● Writing a series of easy-to-understand articles that explain the basics of the climate crisis, ie. ‘what is global warming’, ‘what is biodiversity loss’ etc.
● Working with editors to ensure copy is stylistically appropriate
Essential Qualifications
● Undergraduate degree, preferably in English, Journalism, Environmental Sciences, Education or similar
● Teachers are encouraged to apply
● Excellent command of the English language
● Ability to discern and utilise relevant and appropriate sources
● Quick turnaround time, while prioritising quality of work
● Experience writing content for school children is welcome
