Annual Awards Champion Exceptional Corporate Social Responsibility Programmes in Asia

Nearly 70 Asian businesses and leaders in sustainability have been recognised for their corporate social responsibility programmes at The Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2021.

The Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) returned for its 11th edition on September 2, recognising 69 outstanding businesses and individuals who have exemplified determination and perseverance, as well as demonstrated relentless dedication to social responsibility and sustainable business practices in the past year amidst the ongoing pandemic.

Since its initiation in 2011 by leading NGO Enterprise Asia, the AREA has become one of the most prominent corporate social responsibility (CSR) recognition programmes in Asia and widely regarded as the gold standard for and sustainability practice. The awards aim to recognise CSR programmes and honour Asian businesses and leaders for championing sustainable and responsible business practices.

Achievements are honoured across seven different categories: Social Empowerment, Investment in People, Health Promotion, Green Leadership, Corporate Governance, Circular Economy Leadership and Responsible  Business Leadership.

Some of the notable past winners include British American Tobacco Bangladesh, BDO Foundation, Toyota India, L’Oreal, Citibank, Coca-Cola Foundation, CTBC Financial Holding, Bangchak Corporation, and Starbucks.

This year, an impressive number of 205 nominees from 16 countries were shortlisted in the final round of judging. But only 69 were accorded as award recipients, more than half of which are based in Taiwan. This includes the Taiwan Power Company, recognised for its circular innovation opportunities from the value chain of electric power industry, as well as the joint initiatives between Taipei Lung Shan Temple, Liver Disease Prevention and Treatment Research  Foundation, Taiwan, YUAN High-Tech Development Co., Ltd., and Realtek Semiconductor Corporation, whose health promotion programme broke the Guinness World Record for the most people completing a health survey in 12 hours in Taipei.

Prior to the AREA, the International CSR & Sustainability (ICS) Summit 2021 was also held earlier in the day. Themed “Towards an Inclusive and Resilient Future”, the virtual summit saw over 300 C-suite level executives and business leaders from 12 countries to discuss recovery actions needed to rebuild towards a sustainable world.
